Conquering my SEVENTH 5K
Well y'all after having to back out of the St Jude 5K last December I can FINALLY say I CONQUERED my SEVENTH 5K!!! And it was the hardest 5K I have EVER walked in!! When I woke up bright and early yesterday I was SO pumped and ready to go walk!! I got to Shelby Farms where the 5K was being held and parked my car.... Then I realized I was in the wrong spot! So I got back in my car and drove over to the parking lot near the start/finish line... It was then that I was told that check in was down the hill in the pavilion! That should have been my first clue that this was going to be a VERY hilly adventure! I went and got my swag bag and bib number and made the trek back up the hill to sit in my car where it was warm.. Oh did I forget to mention it was FREEZING in Memphis yesterday!
Well race time finally came and we all lined up at the start finish line where I found out I wasn't the only person walking in the 5K!! I got off to a great start and was enjoying all the scenery and then it happened... I encountered the first of MANY hills! I will be honest by about the 1.25 mile marker I was almost ready to give up! Those hills were WAY harder than the ones at the park in Oxford... And to make matters worse my phone died on me so I didn't have any music to pump me up!! But I told myself I was NOT going to give up! I was going to finish this 5K no matter what!! I finally came out of the wooded area and was met by two AMAZING gentlemen who were working the 5K and they said "Your doing great! Your almost done! Finish line is just over that hill!"! Y'all at that point I wanted to cry! I had to go up yet ANOTHER dang hill!! So I mustered everything I had left and pushed up that hill and walked across that finish line! The gentleman at the finish told me I finished in 1hr and 8mins(They had just turned the clock off as I was coming over the hill😞) but when I got on the website it said I officially finished in 1hr 10min... Which is definitely my slowest 5K but you know what, that's not what matters! What matters is that I actually finished! What matters is that even after all the crap I dealt with last November and December with my knee and my blood pressure, I still got back at it!! And I'm hoping next weeks 5K will be even better!! Stay Tuned... For now this girls needs a day on the couch!
❤️Hugs💙
