"Will your future kids have Spina Bifida?"

Hey Y'all! So I get asked ALL the time "Will your future kids have Spina Bifida?" and "Can you even get pregnant with your Spina Bifida?"... I don't have children yet but I hope to in the future and have done COUNTLESS hours of research on both questions... YES a person with Spina Bifida can conceive and carry a child. I have read about SEVERAL women who have had perfectly healthy and normal pregnancies even with their Spina Bifida... Now not all pregnancies are that easy for a Spina Bifida patient and some are considered extremely high risk.... But the same is true for EVERY woman! 

Now onto the question "Will my future child have Spina Bifida?"... I don't know I'm not God! Yes I have read that it is more likely for a Spina Bifida patient to have a child with Spina Bifida. Now I have also read that taking Folic Acid pills each day before conceiving can help decrease that chance! Someone said something to me one time that just absolutely boiled my blood... They said "If there is even a chance your child could have Spina Bifida why would you even try to have a baby?"! So just because my future child MAY be born with Spina Bifida I'm suppose to completely give up my dream of having a child of my own?! I don't think so honey! If my future child is born with Spina Bifida that child will be loved and taken care of like no other... Cause I have been thru it! To me this person was saying that bringing a baby with a disability into the world is a bad thing... and THAT makes me more mad then anything! ALL babies "normal" or the ones born with a disability deserve love! If I could adopt every child with a disability who has been abandoned by someone who "couldn't handle" them being special I would! To be perfectly honest adoption of a special needs child has ALWAYS been something I have wanted to do! Yes I want to be able to get pregnant and have my own biological child... But giving a home to a child with a disability whom doesn't have one is most DEFINITELY something I would LOVE to do! ALL babies deserve to have a normal loving childhood in my opinion!

Hey y'all!!  Yesterday was such a HUGE morning of walking!! My body decided to wake me up SUPER early! Which was both good and bad... Good because it meant I was able to stretch out more and ice my knee... Bad in that it gave my anxiety more time to ramp up! I decided since I was up early I would go ahead and head to the race site and get checked in. So all summer long I have said my theme song for the year is "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten.. 97.60 miles from 2,000 miles!!

Hey y'all!  So this has been one AMAZING week of walkin! I knew at the beginning of the week if I could push myself I would hit 1,900 miles before the end of the walkin week.. So you better believe that is exactly what I did! And it totally paid off because on Thursday morning I hit that magic number! But it definitely wasn't easy at all! Since I had pushed myself so hard the first half of the week when it came time to push and hit the last 2.80 miles my body was not having it! I knew when I started the walk that it was definitely going to be a struggle to finish.. But I was t about to just give up! I told myself it didn't matter how slow I went or how many times I had to stop  I was hitting 2,000 miles! And that is exactly what I did! Surprisingly I didn't have to stop a rest a whole lot but I was SUPER slow! But I pushed thru and hit 1,900 miles walked since November of 2016!!! 2.55 miles for the day!!

Hey y'all! So after hitting over miles yesterday, today was an "easy" day. This morning I was watching some of my nieces and nephews so it was a treadmill walking morning... I ended up walking a little later than I planned but I ended up getting in 1.42 miles!! My treadmill time is SLOWLY getting better!!  Tonight my sister was home so I got in a walk outside!! It was definitely the hottest walk I have dealt with this summer... But I made it another 1.13 miles!! That was over what I was planning!! AND my mile time was UNDER 20 minutes!!  Tomorrow is the last day of the walking week and I am right on track to have my highest mileage week in over a month.. Stay Tuned!!  ❤️Hugs💙 Kelley
